January 2010

Dear

The Ghent Tourist Office wishes you a magical 2010! The new year was off to a dazzling start with the fireworks at Portus Ganda, but many more surprises are in store. The opening of the new City Museum (STAM) as well as the new Tourist Information Office are just a couple of the scheduled events about which you will certainly be hearing more later.

In the meantime, in this ‘post-Christmas’ period, Ghent is just the place for a city visit that will surprise and delight you. Our winter promotion ‘Gent te veel voor één nacht’ (Ghent, too much for just one night) will run until the end of February and offers an attractive reason to come and discover the city. Also in this newsletter, you will find out about the possibilities for celebrating St. Valentine’s Day in Ghent and a number of fascinating exhibitions such as ‘De Chinese Verleiding’ (The Chinese Seduction) at the St Peter's Abbey Arts Centre, ‘Uit het Geheugen’ (From Memory) at the Dr. Guislain Museum and ‘Jaap Kruithof: Omgaan met de dingen’ (Jaap Kruithof: Dealing with things’) at The House of Alijn.

Finally, we will also be looking ahead towards the upcoming Floralies. This five-yearly festival of flowers and plants is celebrating nothing less than its 200th year, and will be putting on an especially spectacular display in honour of the occasion.

We hope you enjoy reading all about it. See you soon in Ghent!

Out of mind
Out of mind. About knowing and forgetting

Our memory has a mind of its own: want we want to remember is often forgotten, but what we want to forget lingers in our mind. This exhibition – combining science, arts and the history of civilisation – focuses on the wonderful way in which the human mind works.

Visitors to Ghent are never disappointed. The city always has surprises in store, catering to every taste. Looking for more information about events in Ghent?
